Areas of Interest in Materials: Dielectric waveguide materials, hybrid materials (soft/hard) for optofluidic integration, magnetic materials, including metallic multilayer structures and their dynamic magnetization properties on the nanoscale.  

Capability: Time-resolved ultrafast optical spectroscopy (pump-probe), magneto-optic Kerr spectroscopy, near-field optical microscopy, single molecule spectroscopy, atomic and magnetic force microscopy, white-light spectroscopy, atomic spectroscopy, nanofabrication and nanoscale imaging with dual-beam SEM/FIB, microfabrication Sample growth: I receive samples through various external collaborations (BYU, Molecular Foundry, University of Chemnitz).  Sample preparation: wafer polishing equipment, metal sputter coating   Present topics of study: optofluidics, photonics of non-solid materials, single molecule spectroscopy, atomic spectroscopy and quantum interference in integrated systems, nanoscale magnetization dynamics, ultrafast and nonlinear optics
